Budget overlanding and storage tricks

Hello I have a jku but anybody may have answers and suggestions for budget overland tips for storage travel anything and every thing. so what are you tricks ?
I have discovered that organic milk comes in a killer plastic jugs, They are heavy duty pretty small and have crew on tops drink milk get free jugs Love it. I also use plastic coffee container form hillbros like the vanilla latte etc for screws and small parts these don't take up any space and are very durable but label them casue they all look alike form the outside.

so what are you guys using?

I use small mint tins and bottles for emergency kits and packs of various kinds. Some have minimal fishing gear, others for fire starters, and still others for first aid. I keep them spread between my various bug out bags ( I'm required to be deployable within 72 hours at all times in my job.), emergency bags, took kits, and stashed in my rig. The mints taste great too. lol.

I also like use plastic soda and Gatorade bottles for hardware, and I've seen shop setups where the owner uses glass canning jars to sort and organize his hardware and mounts them on the bottom of shelves by screwing the lids to the underside. Then all he needs to do is screw the jar into the lid.

The milk jug idea is an old one. Growing up, we didn't always have reliable and safe water on the farm (100 year old plumbing with city water is like that.) so my dad would save all the 1 gal milk jugs, fill them with water and toss them in our huge deep freezer. In case of power outage, the frozen jugs keep the freezer frozen, in summer, they provide handy ice for coolers, and in the case of our water going bad (this was before we switched to well water), it gave us fresh drinking water. Because it was frozen, it didn't have a chance to "gel" or grow that slime that standing water tends to develop.

You can also buy cheep food containers and use those. Durable and disposable.

Basically, anything with a sealable lid will work for what you're wanting.

Mines not a trick, more of a cheap solution. Plano cases from wal mart for the RTR. they hold a bunch of gear and are 24 bucks cdn. toss them up on the rack, they have tie down points and weather resistant and perfect for lighter stuff like clothes etc. I figure we can carry everything we need for our camping setup in one, clothes in another, kitchen in a third, and have the back of the jeep for our thermocooler, stove, and food we use while traveling and stuff you use while traveling.

For 72 bucks, we have our complete setup in storage and neat. I think its a win win. cheap and good.

I have done similar to this:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Plastic-Soda-Bottle-Lid-Capsule/

Except I use Gatorade bottles as they are larger. I also use a special glue used to connect ABS to PVC, thus these would no longer be viable for any food/consumable products. But I didn't have much luck with CA glue.

The ones I built were filled with 3/16" ball bearings and tossed into our "get home bags" next to the slingshots...

Someone else suggested either Elmer's ProBond Advanced, or E6000.

There are quite a few ideas for these if you read through the comments like below:

"I cut a small section from the side of the bottle and glued it into the middle of the two sections thereby making a two sectioned container. I have several of them and use differing colored caps or plastic to differentiate at-a-glance. They can contain medications, spices, small parts. I have some to carry travel fishing tackle like weights and hooks." - And the container will act as a bobber...

"...put some useful return info inside and fasten one of these to my dog's collar. He's got an ID tag - but there would be room for so much more in a rolled-up note tucked into one of these little capsules."

Tie some paracord around it and you have a floating keyring that will hold documents for your boat.

Small parts, nuts, screws, clips. There was also mention of stuffing them with grease so you won't have to take an entire large tube...

Your imagination is your only limit...
