Although I'm sure many of you are still digging 2007 Playa dust from your rigs' nooks and crannies, I figure it's never too soon to start mulling 2008: the "American Dream" burn.

Who's planning to go? Elizabeth and I will be there, dragging along a small (so far) contingent of our screwballsiest amigos. We haven't signed on with any particular theme camp or village yet.

Trevor thanks for the post. I was going thru last years thread and came across this photograph. This has got to be the best use of a highlift jack.

It is getting closer

Any other Expo folks going to Bman?

We have been working on our art car http://albums.phanfare.com/2064813/2131306#imageID=30542460 -

Any ham radio people can check in with the 146.520 Burning Ham Amareur Radio Society daily net on the playa.

Let the haters hate and the players play....

Edit: Changed the pic due to copyright issues. (just noticed so I removed it)

I've always wanted to go to this, but its too far to drive for a weekend.

Plus I'm not sure I'm freakish enough....:shakin:

Ended up falling apart (the large group), there is still a decent Park City contingency. For us the timing is bad (and costs etc). I think fuel prices will hit BM hard this year.

Anyway, the group is regrouping for 2009 hopefully, our goal is 30 plus people. At least 5 of us are die hard Land Cruiser fanatics, for what it's worth!

Also not a weekend but a week...

Cheers, Andre

Michael, my girlfriend and I are going. This will be our first year. We're camping with a group called Homeslice. Both of us are volunteering with the Gate and Perimeter teams, and arriving early, on Friday 8/22. We can't wait, and hopefully are ready for a full ten days of Playa fun.

Very cool! But you should make that a working BBQ! What's the two-storey art car next to yours...?

Wow 10 days for newbie’s, now that is a long time for some first timers. You will have fun as long as the weather is good. Pray for minimal dust storms.
This will be my 12th year straight.

I want to get the BBQ working for real but the others don't for obvious safety reasons.

The two story structure is our hangout space in camp. We will reassemble it on the playa. Nice huh?

Very cool... One thing I would say is its funny how different camps do things their own ways there. My only vote is make sure you get out a lot a do stuff at your own pace and check out stuff on your own. Some of the best experiences I had were just me and Carrie or us and a couple close friends roaming around during the day, checking out art, bars, etc, you name it... I only say it because we came with a friend who'd been 10 years in a row and had her way of doing things which may or may not be right but there is "no one way" and that is the beauty of BM, it is so different for so many people.

Hope it helps and awesome and welcome! I really wish I could go this year. The "American Dream" means a lot to me and I actually think it will be an absolutely killer year out there with some really really creative stuff. I also have a feeling things will be a little smaller with less excess (funny that you can think of BM as "excess"), a little more intimate, with the economy and gas prices again as mentioned...

Awesome..

it would be nice if fewer of the Frat boys showed up and there were less partiers and more art makers. My first year there were only about 9k people and no gridwork of streets. You really had to know where your camp was but it was not so big either. I do miss the old days when "rave camp" was a mile outside of camp. Now it seams like every other camp is a bar or a disco. Still though there is so much cool stuff that people build that it is still worth it to me.

"Too much is just enough" has always been my motto....

That's my biggest concern. We're packing a couple cases of 3M respirators, plus some Respro Techno masks, a variety of goggles, eyedrops, nasal spray, etc. Plus my tent trailer is going to be surrounded by what will probably end up looking like a drunken Spirograph pattern of guy lines.

Pshah! Safety third.

Yeah, I regret never experiencing a pre-rave Burning Man. Now it seems like the all-night do-oot do-oot scene is the only reason some people go.
