Hey everyone on ExPo I have browsed the forum for days and days now and decided on a 95 SR. Everything I read about these rigs are awesome I just had to join the forum so I could see the pics of the builds and now I am convinced this is the route I will be going. But I was hoping to hear from you all about what to look for as far as warning signs. The truck will only be about 1500 and at 173k on it. the seller has no service records on it other than what he as done and that's just the basics like oil changes and the like. If you guys could give me some tips that would be great.

The seller said the transfer case and differential was done bit no proof of it. Was wondering if there's a way to check visually to see if these items were changed. And thanks for the reply

Welcome! I recently bought a 94 SR and so far I love it to death. I recommend giving her a good through inspection and look at everything as you would any other vehicle, and just remember it's a 20-year-old truck. Things like belts, brake lines, shocks, etc. might need replaced. Since you have no idea if or when the timing belt was changed, plan on doing that ASAP and that would also be a good time to replace the valve guide seals if she smokes a bit at idle. The kit for the timing set comes with a new water pump as well, and of course it's a good tim for a coolant flush. Check the oil and tranny coolers for leaky lines, and make sure the 4WD modes function like they should. If it has the factory rear air locker you will want to check that too.

Timing belt..
$200 to $300 in full parts kit. Or ya pay to have somebody do it for you. Maybe $1200 +/-. If ignored and breaks, engine is toast. PM frequency is 60k miles, yours is aproaching 3x life expectancy. Id be worried. Everything else is minimal.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely be doing the timing belt and valve seals and gaskets. Hope to find a sticker or something written on the t belt cover indicating a mileage a change had been done. Will post some pics of the rig if it checks out
