Cabin Air Filter for the TJ

Does anyone have this? If so, does it work well? I found it on HERE.

With Baja, the Mojave, and other similar places in mind for the near future, something that can keep the dust outside when I want it to would be nice.

There is a guy here in AZ trying to launch this product http://www.dustb-gone.com/

He has tested it on a few local jeeps with good results.
Seems to me its just some of the magnetic door sign material cut to shape for the vent.Just use the A/C or heat on recirculation while the magnet is in use.

Seems pricey for what it is. How much are the normal scoops you can get via Qtec and co.?

From a technical point of view I don't see why it wouldn't work depending on your expectation levels. Most current car stuff has HEPA filters and such IIRC. This looks like a POS K&N to me. :)

I think it is great idea. I'd probably start with something like this:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/13006_410.htm

add an extra piece of plastic with a hole cut in it to sandwich between the tub and the scoop and then drop a proper filter in the hole I cut in the plastic. Come up with some clamps to retain the filter. Maybe some clipboard clamps.

But that's just me. :)

Just get a chunk of Foam rubber and cut to fill the scoop opening, Mine cost about $3. Check "army" surplus stores for Matress pads or upholstery shop for scraps. You'll get a plug & Play solution.

You know I took the cowl off and removed the black plastic air scoop from the air inlet and measured the opening went to my local Wallis Mart and found a air filter about the same size as the opening and reinstalled everything, it worked really well but after about 8 months it was restricting air flow enough that it was time for a replacement.

All that sounds good but 1) how well do those other methods work when wet? 2) how easy is it to clean/replace when needed and 3) spend 3 weeks in the dry desert. What one will work as advertised.

Just using recirc doesnt do much. Doesn't "pressurize" the interior to keep out dirt/dust from entering under normal use and no fresh air.

So in other words, no one has tried this unit. Coming from the mind frame of "you get what you pay for", cost is a small price to pay for a "get it done right the first time with no worries after the fact" item.

I think this is great idea home made or bought.....
I would like to be able to reach in and pull the filter quickly for heavy rain. I don't see how the scoop mounted filters would work with a saturated element, a Jeep needs alot of air when defrosting windows in a heavy rain.

It does say the Offroadtrailtools scoop was remolded 4 times for a good fit, so maybee it is a quality product. I would be interested in seeing one installed.....

Given that hot wire MAF sensors have occasional troubles with oil off of oiled filters, like K&N's, I'd be very inclined to use a dry filter of some sort. Don't terribly care to be breathing that oil, even if it is a very small amount.

If I lived on dirt roads I could see using it. But since I don't, it's just another maintenance point on the Jeep that I don't want to care for ;)

I used a very simple method- a wet/ dry vacuum filter over the air intake, attached with a rubber band. It's been on there for 1 1/2 years and going strong. A 3 pack of the small filters is $5 at the hardware store.
