Cadac Safari Chef Grill

We recently bought a Cadac Safari Chef Grill and cooked with it most nights for three weeks, mostly in combination with a regular 2 burner propane stove.

Our verdict is... we like it!

Pros:
  • Includes barbeque grill, non-stick griddle/ribbed grill, enamel wok/lid.
  • Everything fits in the provided, compact, bag.
  • Reasonably easy to keep clean.
  • The wok and grill/griddle work well on the other camp stove.
  • Works to some extent as a standalone stove.
  • Big enough for 2-3 people, 4 in a pinch.
  • Works on a bulk tank, although the instructions say it should only be used with a disposable 1 Lb tank.

Cons:
  • Limited heat output when used as a standalone stove so it takes a long time to boil water.
  • No mark on knob (which we fixed with a sharpie.)
  • No lid if the wok is used at the same time as the grill.

It all fits in this bag.

Food tastes great. No photos of griddle/grill but they work, too.

Lid functions as a wok, grill functions as a stove.

Messy cleanup is limited to these bits; the barbeque grill wipes or scrubs off easily and any grease and sauce/marinade scoups out of the drip tray with a paper towel. The top deflector plate is the nastiest bit but we found a small grill scraper keeps the crust down enough.

You can get one from Sports Authority for $70 or so. This sounds steep when compared with the $20 cheap gas grills which work well but we've found they don't last long before rusting out, are bulky and hard to keep clean.
