My brother does a yearly ride up to the Sierra Nevada's and I'm not normally able to attend. This year... I have no reason not to! :coffeedrink:
This is one of those trips that easy turns into one of those "next time" things. Now or never. I need to do it or forever talk about what coulda.

There is just one small problem. I don't have a bike! :bike_rider:
A friend of mine heard and immediately offered his BMW R1200C for the trip. Since it will be all on highway back roads riding that will work perfectly.
It takes an especially generous person to even consider offering their bike up for a several thousand mile trip.
I just changed the oil and head out at 4AM in the morning to beat the heat and traffic.
Once we leave from Orange County, Ca on Wednesday the general plan is as follows. Of course, it will change as we go! :friday:

Looks like fun. Keep an eye on those Yosemite fires. There may be some road closures in that area.

Thanks Heidi!!

thomd, Good call. We are comtemplating an alternate route down to big sur if the fires persist! I'm just along for the ride in this life. Wherever I go, it's the place to be. :D :bike_rider:

Tim,

Enjoy the trip! I've got an R1200C myself - it turns more heads then a Harley and has such a unique sound.

Ride safe.

Is the R1200C the cool "off-road" looking BMW or the "lots-O-Chrome" one?

Depending on the model, lots of chrome. Think the one James Bond rode with the Chinese secret agent on the back :sombrero:

Great ride out. 431 miles. I had to go out of my way and hit up Ortega highway.
Being a dirt rider I finally realized the joy in leaning a bike over in the turns. Road PCH to a buddy's house last night for dinner. Another favorite ride.
We head north in a couple hours.
SPOT says their tracking pages are all down.

Here is what the bike looks like... With lots of crap strapped to the back!
Woohoo! Can't wait to share some pics!!

Oh Yah. It sure is a weird feeling resting ones legs on top of the cylinder jugs while riding! Only on a beemer.
