Alternator bench test at AutoZone failed on "lamp on voltage" section. It was supposed to be 8v and it tested at 9.77v. The weird thing is that was what it tested at before it was rebuilt. Maybe they have incorrect parameters for the 2002 Montero? I took it to the shop who rebuilt it and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Their bench tester showed no faults. I reinstalled it and will take it somewhere else next week to get a second opinion.
Any suggestions on what could be going on here? I'm thinking that testing continuity between the case and a ground point would show that it's grounded well. The connector looks ok, no corrosion. I'm going to double check the negative battery terminal since I replaced that. Running our of ideas. My mechanic should be back in next week so we will see what he says.
