Cam Seal and Coolant Flush

Hey Gang,

So next weekend I'm going to be changing the coolant on the monty, and I'm going to replace that pesky cam seal as well. I know that the cam seal is a very common problem so I'm sure that has been covered extensively on this forum. However, I cannot seem to find the thread(s). I was wondering if someone could recommend a cam seal thread. If not, I was hoping for some wisdom on the following matters:

1) What is the best way to access the passenger-side cam seal?

2) Is a torque wrench necessary? How many lb-ft should I tighten to?

3) Any quirks, headaches, or recommendations to save time and improve the quality of the job would be very helpful.

Cheers,

Jason

Hey Worhington,
You should have plenty of room to access the cam seals without having to remove much else. You may want to invest in some ratcheting wrenches if you don't already have a set this will make the job a little easier. You may want to consider removing the intake hose for more elbow swing room and visibility as well as the hood for more comfortable access. Make sure the power antenna is down too, if nothing else.

Thanks Guys,

After taking a more purposeful look I can already see how removing the intake hose and hood will make for an easier job. Thanks for the heads up! Saw the factory service manual link, my Monty is a 2002, which I didn't find on the website, so I just downloaded the 2003 one. From what I understand the 3.8 is just a bored over 3.5 and all the stuff is in the same place.
