Camel Trophy 110 on Ebay

Not mine but thought I'd pass it along:

Camel Trophy 110

Doesn't seem like a terrible price if the vehicle has the provenance stated..

BTW, 1983s are eligible for legal and "relatively" inexpensive import into the US.

This one has been listed on eBay several times before, and has been discussed here on ExPo, too. I guess nobody else values it quite as much as the current owners.

I wonder if that 60hp 110 has enough twist to break one of the 10 spline axles. At least its stripped down so there is probably less British wiring to chase problems through. Of course I'm sure the sucker buys it he will probably just drop it off at their local LR specialist @ $100/hr since he's probably never spun a wrench in his life. Probably be a cool ride the two weeks out of the year it’s not in the shop. Won't give the VIN # or contact info, guess you'll just have to BUY IT NOW for the non negotiable $60K and take whoever world for it that its a real CT. Of course they will only sell it to a "competent enthusiast" i.e.. someone O.K. with spending thousands of dollars a year to keep it running. I would much rather have a brand new 4 door JK Rubicon, a warranty, and $30K in the bank. Over priced POS!

Thanks for the relevant input...

Good god, did those really run on just 60bhp? It's a marvel those things moved at all. They couldn't have been very light.

Gears are marvelous things!
Naturally aspirated 2.25 liter diesel engine was rated around 60 hp or so. Around 1986 or so, Land Rover then fitted a turbo charger to this very same engine, which gave it 86hp. I had that engine in a 90, and it did all right, was able to propel the much lighter non-Camel 90 to about 70 mph on flat ground and no winds. As a NA diesel, the 2.25 engine was very reliable. As a turbo diesel, not that much. That why then LR developed the 200Tdi.

The 110 in the add is probably one of the nicest old Camels around. If it is worth the price - who knows. I have seen less unique vehicles fetching higher prices at Barrett Jackson auctions.
