Hard to compete with the comfort of a RTT, but a lot of troops have migrated to hammock hanging.
They may still pitch a tent for their gear to comply with the camping MB requirements, though.

Have you tried a swag with a cot. I use this setup a lot and it works well. I too am getting to old to sleep on the ground and moved to a larger tent with a stretcher. The tent was a pain for quick 1 to 2 day get aways so i bought a Darche dusk till dawn swag and put that on my stretcher works a treat and pretty easy to setup and take down. I use an awning on my 4wd if the weather is bad and i do not have to strike my tent if i want to go out and 4wd all day. Hope this helps.

If you were on a scout owned camp, I'm surprised they let you keep the truck there with the trailer unless you also had your 12V fridge in the truck or needed to keep the trailer hitched for stability, security, etc.

All the scout camps I ever went to as a leader for 10 years required that all vehicles be moved out of the campsite areas. Troop trailers and on most occasions the tow vehicle for said troop trailer were exceptions. One time I had to show the camp ranger my ARB fridge in the back of the truck, explaining that'd it'd be rather inconvenient to hike out to the parking lot for all my meals! He agreed and let my truck stay in the camping area!

Reason for the 'rule' is to keep the campsite just that, camping and not glamping so to speak. All good IMHO.

It was not a Scout owned park but a county park, so rules are different. When at QSR or Camp Kanza, we do have to leave trucks in the parking lot.
