Can a compass be fixed? It points south...

Glad it was an easy fix!

Be careful where you drill it. Some are liquid-filled to dampen the movement...

Well, I tried to open it to maybe move the magnet. Broke the plastic globe, and got mineral oil all over the dining room. What a mess! Contacted the seller on ebay to ask if it pointed north or south when he had it. He said he was selling it for his father and as far as as he knows it always pointed north. He immediately refunded my money, (wasn't much, it was an old compass). VERY nice of him to do that, and he didn't want it back, either .

Fast forward to yesterday. I see it sitting in the trash. I know it only cost a few bucks but this cheap Yankee absolutely HATES to see anything go to waste. So let the rebuild begin. Some super glue and some of my wife's mineral oil, and it's back together again.

No light, I don't wanna mess with it. And, stoopid me forgot to move the magnet before I sealed it up again! AARRGG!

SO, I still have a compass that points south, but has no shield on it, AND it has these huge ugly cracks running over it, with glue on both the inside and outside.

What's a cheap Yankee to do? Yard sale? List it on ebay? Nope!

FIX IT! Rough it up, mask it off, paint a shield on it. Install it.

Much as it pains me, I'll be contacting the seller and offering to re-refund him his money back, again, I think, right?

Yeah.........
