Can you remote mount an integrated solenoid?

Hey all, tried to search this on Google and had no luck.

I'm looking at buying a Ramsey 9500UT used, with the integrated solenoid. For space reasons, I need to mount the solenoid in the engine compartment. I can't think of any reason why you couldn't do this, but I just wanted to confirm.

Thanks
Luke

I would imagine you could relocate the solenoid itself just by running wire. However, wouldn't the solenoid housing still be located in the same place, or is that removable?

Usually the integrated housing is criticle to the winch structure the same way tie bars are on a non-integrated winch. Probably not a great idea to just cut it off.

Oh, I thought he was referring to the plastic cover. I wouldn't do anything to compromise it structurally. :)

If I'm not mistaken it's just a plastic cover and underneath you'll find the solenoids and then a metal coverplate over the end of the housing. That's how my RE1000 is designed and based on the UT's owners manual parts drawing it looks to be the same. However, it looks like the freewheel lever is goes through it, so it might not be so simple and that might need modification, if it's doable.
I've found Ramsey tech support to be helpful, just call them to make sure.
