A guide is still required - he mentions it in the video about 30 seconds in.

I wonder how much the guides are charging these days?

The guide we hired charged $25/hour. That seems to be the going rate for step-on guides (guides that ride along in your truck). We spent 4.5 hours in the canyon and only saw about half of it. You could easily spend 6 hours there.
