Cargo Trailer Aerodynamics

you need tongue weight to be at MINIMUM 10% total trailer weight..

the important thing about aero is your trailer is skinnier than the tow vehicle and shorter than the tow vehicle.. distance behind, and tounge length have a very negligible effect because at 70mph the drafting zone behind you is rather large.. 10in is unlikely to make much of a difference.. as I mentioned much earlier in this thread, I had a very aerodynamic hatchback towing setup that I lengthen the tongue on significantly (>3ft) and there was absolutely no measurable impact on fuel economy.. so I'm highly doubtful shorting it will result in any tangible benefit.

Watch this video to understand importance distributing load weight correctly:

The project so far (the orange tape is temporary) May build a triangular tool box on the tongue to help direct the air away from the carrier front.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have been thinking about modifying my trailer due to all the wind drag but may try these out first. If I do try them out I will let you know how it goes.

Given I will not put any of these on my truck I still have the issue of the wind resistance forward slash drag in the front of the trailer. So maybe I need to modify it there and then just add the tails on the back?

So did you ever put the Trailer tail on it?

No. I have decided to get rid of the trailer.
