CB radio installation

Hi guys! Id like to see your cb radio mounting solutions on Europa 463's. I chose a portable cb because I thought I would never find space to mount a conventional one. Some of you guys must be using cb's on W463 so I'd like to see your setups. Im sure there could be more solutions I'm not thinking about.
Im thinking to mount my portable cb on a bracket off the drivers seat mount bolt holding the unit next to the parking brake handle. My goal is to not alter the interior, not obstruct any other equipment, have the display visible and be easy to pick up and talk while driving.

No experience yet with this subject but your idea seems about as minimally intrusive as is possible. Ram mounts probably makes something that you could use right out of the box.

Thanks! I have most of what Ram offers but in this case they dont help. I think It's just easier to cut a piece of aluminum, make 2 holes in it and paint it black. I'm going to start a thread on my build at some point so you guys will see my solution there.

image.jpgimage.jpgI know it's a bump in overall price, but, do yourself a favor and forego the CB and get your ham license. Then look into a mobile HF radio like mine, the Yeasu 857d. With it, you not only have the ability to mount the brain somewhere out of the way and then mount a small head unit almost anywhere you want, but you now have a radio that will cover all needed radio freq's, including UHF, VHF, HF, FRS (the family radio system walkie talkies) and 11m (citizen band or CB) with a very easy "modification".

I've never understood the draw to CB's personally when a ham liscence is so easy to get and it is a tool that really can reach out for comms and for help when needed. A CB to me is only for car to car comms and that's it, but if that's what your needing than FRS is so much easier to deal with. You'll spend a lot of effort mounting a radio that is very limited in its use, IMHO.

BTW, ram makes some great mounts, I use them a lot.

Right now I just need a cb for vehicle to vehicle communication. Eventually I'm going to get a HAM but have more important things to do right now. Thanks for your suggestion on that radio. What antenna do you use with it?

I pulled the rear passenger ash tray out and zip tied my CB to the ash tray mount at the rear of the center console. You can still see all the dials/channels/etc, but it's out of the way of everything. You can hear the speaker if you mount it rear-facing, or, do what I did, and re-purpose the oddments tray and install an external speaker in it.

For an antenna, I threw a firestick on a standard trucker CB antenna mirror mount that I attached to the top of the spare tire carrier...

It requires opening up the case and removing a diode the size of a gnat's ***. It is actually a quite easy job. Most radios have some capability of being modded, just requires a search on Google. The mod will open up most all frequencies including FRS at a higher wattage meaning longer transmission distances.

I Googled mods for -857, and for opening up the TX, I only saw a mod for closing some jumper pads. Can you elaborate on the diode removal mod?

Yeah, keep digging on Google, there are a ton of sites out there walking you throught the process. My understanding is that there is a variation to the mod depending on your build date of your radio.

Both the HAMs and anti-HAMs need to knock off the petty drama. Consider this your final warning, bannings will ensue if this behavior continues.

MM 58, on the Yaesu 857 the mod involves soldering and or de soldering a row of jumpers, it's the yaesu 7800 that involves removing one small jumper. Sorry for the misleading info, it's been several years since I did the mods on my two radios.

As far as the OP is concerned, I look forward to see what you come up with.
