Cedar Shower Deck

Okay, so I decided it was time to stop showering in my sandals and build a shower deck to stand on that would also allow the water to drain. I built this out of cedar in the hopes that it will resist the affects of continued use, because I didn't want to put any finish on it and have to maintain the finish.

Cost: about $25
Time to complete: approx 3 hours

I completed this last night and it's very solid. I distributed the load evenly as the drawings will show. I'm very happy with the results.

My first thought was "maybe he is going to put it on the roof rack... " then I saw the excited smiley and new exactly where it was going.

if ya wanted a pallet to stand on ya coulda just "found" one for free,,, geez.

looks great, that cedar should hold up well.

It's considerably more manageable than a pallet, I assure you. Weighs just a couple pounds and as you can see from the drawing it's only 2' x 2'.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

I wanted to share the drawings, because it's easy to build and will hopefully prove to be useful to some people.

Nice work. Reminds me of this product that I've seen in some camping supply stores for about $30:

For my "shower deck" I use a rubber doormat made from recycled tire tread. When not in the shower, it sits in front of my tent door.

This is the exact product I copied. The reason I didn't build it exactly like this is that I'd read that the slats bent under load when standing on it. I decided to separate the middle support pieces to distribute the load more evenly. I do like that this one folds in 1/2, but then I thought that if I built it that way, it would be twice as thick when folded.

Anyway, either one will work.

I've been toying around with the idea of adding a rubber mat to the list. Both to use when getting out of the shower (something dry and clean to stand on while putting shoes and socks on. And I thought it would be great to put at the base of the ladder to the tent too.
