Chain's Tundra build

Hey all!

I'm new to the Portal, been lurking here for years, been thinking about building a rig for as long.
I'm planning to replace some of my motorcycle adventure travel with a 4 wheel rig.

So here's the plan. I need a rig that can be used for a daily driver, haul heavy loads of construction material, tow a sub-compact tractor and transform into an expedition rig for 5-6 trips a year.

I purchased a 2014 Tundra SR as a base. After looking at several options, for suspension, I settled on the 2.5 performance kit from Camburg with Unibals and 1.5" shackles.

Bolting on Budbuilt stainless skid plates and thinking about an Expedition One rear winch bumper with Warn 8k

Haven't decided on a front bumper yet and will probably take a shot at fabbing rock sliders with tube bender.

So now my dilemma is wether to build an expedition rack for a RTT or build a trailer...

More to come.

Cheers!

Welcome! and load some pics if you can. I'd like to know how you like the Camburg set up. I'm choosing a lift this week, and will also go with the BudBuilt stainless skids on my 2010 Tundra. Personally I'd use the sheer size of the Tundra to go RTT, pit will be less expensive and a trailer seems to make a long rig even longer...

I pick the truck up on the 27th so will know more about how it handles soon.
Agree, thinking the trailer might be good for some adventures, but most of the time the RTT or a cabin will work just fine.
I'm going to have David at Ekstrom build the roof rack. Possible the bedrack too. I'm thinking of drawing up something I can use for daily driving then cover with a canvas wrap and set a RTT on for adventure travel... This is going to take a little while

Picked up the 2014 Tundra yesterday. Kind of ran into a conundrum with the dealer. Hopefully they get their stuff together in the next couple of weeks. Good news is that I get to drive the truck bone stock for a week or two so, I'll be able to make a solid comparison stock vs Camburg set up.
Set a build date with Coachbuilder for late March. Now, just need to figure out what we are building...

Camburg 2.5 performance kit, bud built skid plates and 33" Toyo AT II installed. Spent Sunday playing in the snow and sand. This suspension set up is incredible! Having driven stock 4 wheel drive vehicles for the past 25 years, I am honestly amazed at the difference a quality suspension set up makes. I highly recommend the Camburg set up to anyone looking to take their stock Tundra to the next level.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, I'll get out and get some better quality shots soon.

I just recently had CBI offroad build some awesome slider steps for the double cab tundra. These are by far the best I have ever owned. Made from DOM tubing, powder coated, bolt on to frame, plus have rear step for bed access, RTT, canopy, etc. You may want to consider them. I spent a ton of time researching sliders for the tundra and looking into doing my own. To be honest, it was more cost effective to have CBI do them then me spending a ton of time trying to fab some.

They are available thru:

WELCOME MATE!!!! Cool to see one of the "big" Toyotas getting out and playing aye. Love that Camburg set-up, if I had one of those beasts I think that's the way I'd go suspension wise. Camburg makes some seriously nice stuff.

Enjoy The Portal and I look forward to seeing the rig grow up as you build on her, she's a beaut already.

Cheers

Excellent start on your rig, looks great.

We recently purchased a new Tundra SR5 CrewMax and I've been looking at that Camburg kit too.

Keep us posted!
