Cheap lift for a 92 truck

Brother in law has a 92 4wd ext cab that he wants to put a mile lift on. What are the best options for doing it on the cheap.

Trying to get him into 4wheeling and expo travel but the cost might scare him away which is why I need to ease him in with something cheap to start.

just a couple inches at most.

A stock 3rd Gen Pickup is very capable out of the box. It can clear 32's fine without any lift. If he is dead set on lifting the truck though a cheap way to go is a set of BJ spacers from 4crawler and either a small shackle or an add a leaf in the rear.

An add a leaf will make a Toyota truck very stiff in the rear though.

A mile lift? That's a serious suspension lift! j/k :victory:

Personally, I'd recommend putting the lift on hold for a new owner/wheeler. Putting on a suspension lift is a slippery slope, next is bigger tires/new rims, next is new gearing in the diffs front and rear... $5k spent, and the truck is still not much more capable than it was initially.

For expedition travel, the truck is excellent as designed. Put a bed topper on it to secure gear and it's well on it's way.

For off-roading, the money would be better spent on a locker for the rear. Aussie lockers are cheap and proven. And maybe get some bumpers/sliders for it... nothing turns a newbie away faster than wrinkling up the truck they just bought on their first trip out.

Yeah I agree and it does have 32's on it right now. The problem was the t-case hangs really low and was draging on some of the dirt hills on the easy trails we took it on. Maybe a drivetrain lift or a different skid plate is in order.

Sorry I really don't know much about IFS truck mods as i've only ever wheel solid axle 4runners and land cruisers.

I ran a 93 4runner with stock suspension, 32's, and a lockright in the rear and it was unstoppable.

The T-case crossmember does hang very low on these trucks. A friend of mine fabbed up a new one that was pretty even with the frame. It helped out his clearance a TON. I would like to do the same on my 95 pickup.

Seems like that is what he needs then..... any recomendations. (I guess I can drop by Bud's (budbuilt) shop next time I drive through lenoir and ask him)

He's not going to get that serious into it. He's a computer geek (big time works for microsoft and named my nephew Redmond (computer geeks will get that one)) and he wants to start doing it for his son because he is in love with 4x4's and my land cruiser. (eventually the truck will be my nephews 14 and 1/2 years from now, it is a toyota after all. :sombrero:)

Yeah and a mile lift might be a tad too big?? maybe a mild lift

If it were me in his position, I would leave the suspension stock ( the IFS is actually very tough in stock form). If he doesn't have manual locking hubs I would get them. Then look into a ratchet style locker for the rear and a higher clearance crossmember (the only one I have experience with is the custom job I mentioned). After that protection and recovery would be the thing I would focus on.
