If you have an iPhone you should check out the free KVUE weather app (don't know if it is available for other phones).
You can choose from a variety of maps (radar (precipitation), satellite (clouds), Road Weather, etc). That choice is overlayed on a google map of your area (or an area of your choice), along with all the normal forecast info (hourly, 10-day).
It takes a few seconds for the app to load, and a few more seconds for the animation to start, but if you have a little patience, it's really cool.
It does have an advertisement bar across the top in portrait orientation, but it's not very intrusive, and it goes away in landscape orientation.
One thing it took me a minute to figure out is that the map selection is accessed by tapping on the i icon in the top right corner. I would expect to find generic app information behind that particular icon, but they've hidden the setup choices there.
