Chequamegon Fat Tire Fest

This isn't really the caliber of adventures normally posted here but I thought some may be interested.

Last Saturday the 15th. of September was the 25th. annual "Chequamegon fat tire fest" in Hayward, Wi. This event is a 42 mile mtb race perfectly suited for the roadie in me and 6 other Alberto's riders. This is my 4th year doing the event and I had my best time to date, 2:28:04. This put me in 102nd. place out of 1357 finishers.
For those that have not heard of Chequamegon, your entry is lottery based and the field limit is 1700! Needless to say a good starting position is essential for success and safety. We got up at 4:30 am and our bike were on the line at 4:55am. This got us the second row!. Still not bad.

As you can see the start is a bit crazy. It's paced by 2 quads on city streets and highway 77 for 2 miles which then you are dumped into rosie's field, where the torture really begins. below are a few shots.

I'm #732

Registration for 2008 is late February. Also for the record 3 time TDF winner, Greg LeMonde rode with number the #1 plate, I beat him by 15 minutes!

...although I must admit, when I saw the title to this thread I had a different Fat Tire in mind....

That is an awesome adventure, I watched the 24 hours of steamboat a few moths ago and I cannot believe how far Mt. Biking has come since I rode competitively in 99.

Well done

Try this on. I was in Durango going to Fort Lewis in 1986. Mtb was just a baby back then!
