Chibola/Imperial NWR and Indain Pass Road

On Saturday I meet up with BLKBLU (Mike) and Michael and his friend AL to run Red Cloud Mine Road/Clip Wash and Indain Pass Road. Finishing up camping at Picacho State Park. Micheal used this run to help shake down some of his GPS gear and communication toys. Pretty cool stuff.
The first stop off was Painted Canyon Trail to walk the 1.3 miles and enjoy the views. This area was the only traffic/people we ran into all day. Then it was back off to explore one of the mines before Red Cloud Mine with a stop for lunch, a little explore at Red Cloud Mine and then on out to Chibola National Wildlife Refuge.
The time on pavement was a nice break but was starting to put some of us to sleep. Until, we meet up with Indain Pass Road and the wash board road once again. Again, the only other vehicle we meet on this trail a Jeep Wrangler from Alaska (snowbird)right before you descend into the was. As we got closer to Park we where passed by two Border Patrol SUV doing baja speed though the wash (I wonder where they were coming from, hum).
The plan for the night was to camp at the 4S beach campsite but upon arrival we found the campsite too be filled with a small group and a not to friendly individual (I think the beer in hand had something to do with it). So it was off to the Outpost campsite just north of 4S.To our joy we had the campsite area to outselves and picked out the prime spot of the area right in the area.
Good times were had that moonless night around the campfire sharing stories and some embrassing moments. The moon did final appear in the middle of night stirring some of us awake. The final trip out today consited of a stop at Bear Falls and a jaunt around the campsite areas in Picacho then right on out and too lunch at a Mexican Resturant in Yuma right by IHOP (the food was good but the service kind of stunk). Thanks again for lunch Michael.

Hopefully, my ranting made since.

Anyone how on to the photos (some of them came out kind of wierd even though the were taken in subsession).

Camp for the night and a few views of the sunset. The campsite shot came out kind of weird even though they were taken in subsession.

Time to head down Indian Pass and find a campsite

This is as close as we came to one of the feral burros out there. Hopefully Al was able to do better with his fancypants camera

My sunset shots didn't pan out so much. Here is the best of the bunch

I could have sworn I posted a trip report for this adventure! Sorry T!

It was a great trip with great companions. The camp along the Colorado River was especially nice with the sunset/sunrise vews something that will be hard to forget. With BLKNBLU, Al, and I picking up where we left off on the El Camino del Diablo, T joined in and our campfire talk ranged over every possible topic. Even politics and religion were touched on and no gunfights broke out!

The first day's expedition up the east side of the Colorado river was very interesting, with spectacular desert views and thick riparian growth along the river, so much so that the road ran in a 'green tunnel' in spots. The passage through Clip Wash had some minor challenges in a few spots, especially as Al (new offroader/passenger) was negotiating the dry falls alone in the Silver Taco while I spotted for him for a change :Wow1:

The guided tour of Picacho Rec Area on the west side of the river was great -- I'd wanted to visit that area for some time. Overall, a very nice weekend adventure. I can't begin to match the awesome photos already posted, but I'll throw up a few to add to the thread.

Thanks T for planning a great expedition!

Hey Michael, thanks for the shots. Again, it was good to hook up with you and Al another time as well as T. Were you or Al able to do anything photo-wise with that burro off in the distance?

Couldn't do much with the photo, that burro was a long way off. I also included another sample of the wildlife we encountered :sombrero:
