Chirpy the breaks

So two weeks ago I called the dealership in phx and had them send up the o ring for the cam seal on the passenger side rear end of the engine as it was leaking. According to the parts guy, the driver side does not have that same oil seal, even though I can see what looks like the same leaky thing on that side. The fix was simple and I cleaned the area so I could see if that stopped the leak. It did.

Taking it for a test drive I could hear a rapid chirping when I first pressed on the breaks. Checking around I found that the chirping was coming from the break booster accumulator, that is the softball shaped tank next to the breaks on the fire wall. The breaks are still working fine, but the noise is making me concerned that they won't work for much longer.

A internet check says that the accumulator is about 150 bucks and relatively easy to do. Have any of you guys had this issue, and did replacing the accumulator fix it? Could I have done something wrong when I degreased the engine? Does the 2001 Montero engine have a second cam seal on the driver's side? Why can't I ever fix a problem with out finding another one?

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
The FSM for the early Gen. III Monteros show a seal/o-ring on the passenger side cam and on the driver's side it specs. gasket maker.

The brake boost accumulator had a factory recall.

Thank you. I called the dealership but there told me that they could not check if the recall had not been serviced at there facility. Does Mitsubishi USA track that?

The dealership is lying - they have the capability to determine if there are any outstanding recalls on any Mitsubishi. Whether it's been done there or anywhere else in the US doesn't matter. Find a different service writer or a different dealership.

No, I have never used a dealer for service on my Montero, just the dealer on Bell Rd for the occasional small parts purchases. They keep changing names and locations so it's hard to keep track of who and where the current Mitsu dealer is on my side of town.

My experience as a service writer at Culiver and Midway Nissan/Infiniti/Pontiac/GMC/Buick/Suzuki/Kia is what I'm relying on when I say that every dealership has the capability to determine if there are any outstanding recalls by your VIN - I think it's actually a legal requirement. You just ended up with an uncooperative service writer who didn't want to waste his or her time to look it up for you.
