Christmas in the Outer Banks

My wife and I spent Christmas out at my parents place in Kill Devil Hills, NC. We just bought a new Sony H7 camera and had some fun hiking around and snapping some photos. Thought I would share a few of my favorites!

The high res versions of each can be found here:
(The seagull one is pretty cool high res)

Enjoy :)

Looking out at Buzzard Bay in the sound, they actually live on Little Colington Island and there is sound access in their sub

These are photos of the abandoned life saving station at Pea Island, it was really foggy and it made for a very surreal setting.

Where is that old station, I've been in that area a bunch of times never knew it was there.

Just south of the Oregon Inlet bridge on the east side. There is a little parking lot there and you just hike back through the dunes a bit to get there, you can see it from the road.

I was confused by the Bodie island description too, I was thinking it was the Pea Island station.

If you make it all the way to Ocracoke, you can see what they did with the old CG station there, restored it and made it into a teaching center.

Cool trip, thanks for sharing, I love the outer banks and we usually do 2-3 trips a year.

I make it a point to stop every time at the old lifesaving station because it's different EVERY visit. The sands are so dynamic there and it always reveals something different and hides others. It's very cool to discover things that you never knew were there.

Seeing your pictures though it really bothers me, because the sand's been cleared out and part of the building's gone!!!! I can't for the life of me find any of my old pictures I've taken in the past but it's very apparent in yours that they've removed the rear portion, the fencing, and several other cool aspects of it. Looks like they're either planning to restore the rest or tear it all down, what a shame!
