Chrysler filling bankruptcy??

Looking that way down there in the US.

In Canada they are close, but Chrysler Canada is refusing to listen to its potential partner Fiat, and its refusing to listen to the CAW (Canadian Auto Workers Union)....who are both telling Chrysler "Lower your costs NOW, reduce wages NOW if you don't want to sink!!!"

Its very frustrating to see this happening. Our Government will not give Chrysler Canada another penny until they reduce their costs....same with GM.

Both are refusing, and both have the highest operating costs in the market and the country.....and I don't know if sheer bullheaded-ness or just choosing to ignore the problem....who knows, but they are preparing for BRTCY in the US which is the start of a big ball rolling down hill.

Jeep needs to team up with LandRover.....leave Chrysler in the dust, and they should work together to continue making "Go anywhere, do anything vehicles"

No thanks - we don't need Jeeps that drop cylinder liners, lose control arms during mall crawler duty, or don't have electrics when it rains.

CAW is telling Chrysler to lower wages??????? I don't think so!!!! CAW and UAW both have their fair share of guilt of this situation.

Lol, exactly what I was thinking. Jeep might not be the most reliable but that would be a step down. Not bashing LandRovers, they are very cool, just not as reliable as some others.

Specifically, Chrysler wants a $19/hr wage cut, CAW won't hear of it and will only go to $7/hr cut, because that's what GM agreed to.

Yep exactly. I wasn't clear in my first post, but thats the deal. But they are talking today apparently in Toronto.

Jeep will do one of three things:

- Turn over and die
- Join with another manufacturer
- Strike out on its own.

All three are a very real possibility, and niether one out weighs the other in what the brand may do.

If Chrysler flips, then we'll see.

Yeah, I like the idea of Jeep becoming it's own niche brand. Charge more but build them Land Cruiser tough.

Maybe a niche brand containing Hummer makes sense from a diversity of parts bin point of view. Then they could do cool stuff like Gen IV SBCs or Duramax engines, Allison automatics, etc. Or Cummins or M-B or whatever they get the best deal on that is NA spec ready.

I figure there is a market for a Wrangler, H3, Grand Cherokee / Commander, and some kind of a pickup. Not necessarily these exact vehicles but vehicles along those sizes and configuration.

Make the Wrangler and Commander SFA, H3 and Grand IFS. 2WD PU is IFS, 4x4 is SFA.

Or make all models IFS and 2wd, SFA and 4x4 across the line to simplify manufacturing complexity and costs. Use the same frame or unibody pickup points for every model.

Jury is out on whether the inclusion of a 2wd/awd crossover type vehicle is worth the bother to round out the product line up.

Hey, I can dream. :)

Those UAW guys have it good compared to any other union, I don't know anything about CAW but I bet they are just as bad as the UAW. They make twice the money they should make. I work for Cummins and we would have went under already if the old hires stuck around and made an obscene amount of money more than they already do! I hope chrysler gets it all worked out since I am a fan of Dodge and Jeep.:smiley_drive:

I am another one of the many that does not want to see Jeep close it's doors along with Chrysler. i think there is alot of behind the scenes info we may never know.

I would just like to know that if my business gets into trouble will the government step in and bail me out.....? i dont think so. i have been responsible enough to plan for slow and or difficult times. granted a multi million or billion dollar industry is a little more difficult to run than a small business but the basics of business are the same. will canadian tax payers give me money to pay my employees medical and dental...no. i dont have a solution, there is alot of money and jobs at stake. losing chrysler/jeep (or any of the auto manufacturers) would be a terrible thing. when things this large happen there are strong feelings on both sides of the equation. i just hope they reach a solution that doesnt cost canadians in general alot of money but in turn doesnt cost the employees alot either.....is that too much to ask???
