Don't remember if it is turbo'd, but properly geared to maintain working RPMs of 1600-2600 should keep you in good torque, I don't have the time to go look at the gearing &c.

As per: http://www.cummins-sp.com/document_library/Spec_Sheets/Engines/Industrial/B3-3_Spec%20Sheet.pdf

However agreed that @80BHP a little underpowered. 4.10s may seem a little high actually, unsure if there are 3.70s in high pinion?

Edit, actually the QSB3.3 http://www.everytime.cummins.com/assets/pdf/4087118.pdf can pull 110hp and with a lower RPM (same power range).

I agree with Zimm. Sweet motor, but for me i want a 6BT in mine :D Im tired of being underpowered as it is. If im going to do a swap i want the most torque/hp i can squeeze in the engine bay.

LOL, that's on my list too, but I have a VERY long list.

1. Feed Family
2. Shelter Family
3. Clothe family
...
1,080. Loose 30 pounds
...
3,567. Consider 2UZFE swap for favorite Cruiser
....

Should I buy this thing? I just talked to the guy, he seems straight up honest, and I can tell he is detail oriented and thought everything through. He has another buyer deciding tomorrow morning and I'm ready to jump on it. I missed another Cummins FJ60 years ago and have kicked myself since but I don't want to be hasty.

My only worry is the 3bt being underpowered.

Thanks,

Kye

Thanks for the feedback, between the fact that I'm building my 09 Taco, and don't really need another 4x4, and the underpower aspect, I've decided not to buy it. It is a sweet stuck though, if I didn't have my Taco, I'd probably buy it.

id question him hard on the cummins warranty on the motor in that application. thats a stationary powerplant, not a vehicle engine. i never talked to anyone to see if it made a difference, but it may.

It does look very good and the conversion looks like it was pretty good but we banned the seller from our site (4BTswaps) for what we thought was some dishonest activity. I would definitely inspect first. It is a great engine though, much quieter and different than the 4BTs. Proffitt's has installed a couple and they really are nice...

Hmmm... banned? Always makes me wonder.... it would seem to be hard to get yourself banned over there.

What are your thoughts on its ability to handle the weight of a heavy truck like an 80?

I have yet to see an 80 with all of the Proffitts conversions done (4bts) that gets anything more than 22-23mpg. Most of the owners i have spoken to (coincidentally selling them) claimed closer to 20avg.

No way this vehicle was getting anywhere remotely close to 29mpg.

Dunno. It ain't a 4BT and can someone confirm it has electronic engine controls? The BJ60 can get ~28-29mpg.

I can't remember if the 3.3s are electronic or mechanical but I am leaning towards electronic. It is a smaller engine and the autos do suck some mileage out of the engines. My heavy sprung over 55 on 35s got between 22 and 25 pretty regularly with a manual transmission. This one is also manual. I would say 25 mpg on a bad day wouldn't surprise me a bit on this setup....

What the seller was doing was selling the engine with a generic turbo and making horsepower numbers that were completely arbitrary and trying to market it as a turbo diesel when the engine was not a turbo model. And then he started playing games like putting it on ebay here, craigslist there, our site, and then say in certain places "I decided to keep it" and then list it elsewhere. It seemed like he was basically looking for a sucker.. This one does look good but again I would inspect and test drive first unfortunately like most conversions...
