I am not selling these, but did purchase two of them. The seller is in Phoenix and I saw his ad on Craigslist and went to his home as it was near mine.

These were manufactured for the military, but due to a color mix up never provided. The guy (Tristahn) bought them from the company that made the goof and is reselling them. He said he originally was selling them for more, but he is down to ~15 and wants to be done with them. While sure he is trying to make some cash, he uses these, too. He gave me a session on the different types of cans out there and why for fuel these are the preferable ones (specifically military grade welded, not folded cans).

The pictures below are of the ones that I I bought. They are as advertised, and the seller was cool. He said a 'bunch of guys with 4runners or something were buying 4 or 5 of them at a time to line roof racks' but after that he didn't sell many like that first feeding frenzy. Asked him if he knew ExPo and he didn't... I told him I'd share them here as if any group of people might be interested they'd definitely be here!

Here is his Craigslist posting: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/pts/4497666088.html

His name is Tristahn. I'm not sure if he'll ship.

I'm not trying to ******** on his sale, but I thought the real NATO cans had a fully recessed center seam, all the way around.

I just wish to share that I bought mine from ebay and I paid $34 shipped for one including a nozzle. Each of mine came with a nozzle of its own. And I prefer my own color to this color. And I believe mine is the same with this. Besides, the ones I bought came with nozzles. It seems this guy's own does not come with nozzles. So, that is an additional $5 to $10 you will have to spend for a nozzle. I prefer the green military color to this desert color. And I even have a solution for a Jerry Can carrier for those looking for a Jerry Can carrier. This might work well for you. Just my suggestion and what I will be using.

Are these German NATO Spec, I believe US military is using Scepter, hence the demand, because they are not sold in the US. I do know a guy though, and they pop up here all the time. I'm glad your happy, but not what I had in mind when I clicked the ad.

Here's another can, looks the same, for 37.99 + 4.49 shipping http://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Milita...401928969&sr=8-1&keywords=nato+style+gas+cans

It's kind of neat they fit into a rubbermaid container, what exactly is the purpose of that?

Because they are cheap Chinese copies of Wavian cans and you need to have something to catch the leaks when they inevitably happen????

The purpose of the rubbermaid is primarily as a Jerry Can holder. That is the first reason why I got it. The regular Jerry Can holders that are being sold out there are all pricey and made for one Jerry Can only. So, I went on a search at Home Depot and asked them for help, but no one would understand why I was in there looking for Jerry can holders. Well, took me a long time in the store, then I came across this and this works great for me.

It will keep them securely together. And then in case of any leaks, the rubbermaid will keep the leak in check. But honestly, I don't think these brand new things will leak any time within the next 5 to 10 years. I definitely don't plan to use them but every now and then.

And as much as I like laying them as in the pic, I might just put them upright when I put them on my truck.

My small family is leaving this Saturday for a 3,500 miles (about 66 hours of driving) road trip across 11 states and I plan to use this.

Just so yo know.. I wasn't making fun of you at all.. just a little humor from my own "money saving" purchase of some cheap cans a few years ago.

I will say mine started to leak from the seams in about 5months after I got them. At first it was just a small gas smell that lingered, but them it became a few drips.... Moral of the story... mine leaked like a colander... all 4. Maybe it was the ethanol, but who knows.

Good luck on your family's trip! I'll be on the road with mine in a few weeks :)

Thanks for saying that. I am really surprised yours did leak. I hope mine lasts a while. You are right, one cannot be sure when these might leak or something. I just hope mine lasts a long time.

We leave on our trip this Saturday and we will be gone for about 19 days. I will post a trip report in the completed section, when we start our trip, since I plan to update it as often as I can until the end of the trip.

I wish you guys a safe trip too on the roads.

Not sure Carl, but there's obviously a difference there. Seems like the ones he has been using have held up well... I guess time will tell...

Have a safe trip and let us know how your cans have held up after you've used them for awhile - always good to know of a vendor with a tested product. I'll do the same... Again, safe travels!

That rite there is a great idea! Could run a simple bike cable through the handles to keep honest folks honest.

-If you don't want them on the roof, you might be able to get away with a hitch basket using a dual hitch.

Something like such:

http://www.harborfreight.com/dual-hitch-extender-69881.html

Tire carrier on the top portion, basket on the bottom. Flip it if you have the clearance, so that the tire carrier is at the current height, with the basket dropped.

Might get a bit of funky rear sway though, withought beefing up the rear suspension...
