Cleaning the Block!

I’m working on my head gasket job right now and I'm getting my heads back tomorrow, but I am still not happy with how the cleaning of the block is going. I have been using crab cleaner and a sponge but there’s corrosion around where the coolant leak was that I can’t seam to get up. Anyone have more luck with break cleaner? How clean should it be? I don’t want to leave any rough spots but I done want to rub a dent into the block ether. Any help?

thanks

Nate

NO re the wire brush on the alloy block!

A brass bristle brush to start....maybe, but not a steel bristled brush.

Green Scotchbrite pad on a firm block. Lube it with some solvent / parts cleaner / diesel.

You Do Not Want To Alter The Flat Dimension Of This Block Face.

New gaskets will not be the solution to your next problem if you do.

ed...and I do not recommend gasoline / petrol as a cleaner. I used to have this cousin who thought it was a good idea...he ended up on the crispy side :(
