Close, But So Far...A Trip to Arches, Well Kind Of...

The Moab, Canyonlands area gets its fair share of use. Some would even say--overused! We had a few days to play, so we tried to find some more quiet, peaceful areas of the Moab, Canyonlands area. We did...The view were breathtaking! The LaSals were covered in snow and the desert was aglow.

We have always wanted to see this freshwater geyser but never made the turn. We didn't see it erupt, but were teased!

We then made the turn south to see some old mining ruins. I am not sure what they were mining for but it didn't look like a great deal of fun!

We found some breathtaking scenery and an arch for me to refresh my rock climbing skills. I need more practice!

We setup camp and enjoyed Magic Hour. Right before sunset, the desert was on fire! It was fun to look in all directions and see greens, reds, browns, pinks, whites, and blues.

As we walked back to camp, my daughter Lilly realized that the big truck was broken. Luckily she had tools and went right to work. Really...for an hour...She was engaged and confident that she could find and fix the issue! She discovered the issue being not enough sand in the tow hitch. She fixed it...some is still in there:)

The following day, we took a stroll towards Arches. We could see the Arches highway...As the crows flies, 4 miles tops. By road, 50 miles easy...It was nice to feel the warmth of the sun and the softness of the sand.

The canyons there didn't seem small either! We saw signs of the past covering the canyon rim. Flint chips...

More to come...

Very nice. I've spent some time out there in the Yellow Cat area and Winter Camp Ridge and Lost Spring Canyon as well. Quiet and relaxing and beautiful. You can see the hordes out at the Delicate Arch area. That was Crystal Geyser right or have I got it wrong?

We explored some natural, sandstone caves for a few hours. Really an amazing place! Many of them had natural springs in the back of them. Fun to explore...Many went back far and we had to use our lights to shine the way.

Many areas had been closed off to cattle and driving. It was slowly growing back. Slowly! A one lane road guided us in the right direction.

The view as we hiked out of one of the caves caught my eye...Not bad...

We found the winding, sandy road peaceful as we returned to camp.

We got back in time for Magic Hour...

Heading out the following day...the desert was quiet, warm, and peaceful. It was nice!

We had to drop the cruiser into low range a few times...nothing major. Found another mining site. Looks like the BLM was about to fortify the structure.

It was nice way to spend a few days...We will be back. The backside of Arches is some of the pretties desert I have seen in a while. Get out there!

Hey! We were there last fall, for Thanksgiving, and that same pile of posts was there. There was paperwork saying that there was an active mineral claim near that cabin, and just across the road where there were several more mining drifts to explore. I remember wondering if it was a ploy to be able to close that road, since it's used by the Jeep Jamboree, but evidently it was just some less than ambitious guys trying to have a little fun!!

The pic of your daughter working on the truck is great...I like that she has the tool kit and will grow up comfortable around vehicles.
Looks like a perfect family outing and well paced to keep the little one having fun.

Gorgeous. Just returned home from that area - gathering my strength for work tomorrow:( We came in on Salt Valley Rd vs. 128. It was a great away to see Arches before heading off to Canyonlands and the White Rim.
