Coil Spring size/rate

Good morning all !! My first post actually so be gentle. I’m building my own 416 style trailer and want to utilize coil springs. Based on projected weight (~1300lbs sprung weight with RTT) I’m thinking 10-12” coil springs with 225 spring rate. That would get me down to around 8-10” from frame rail loaded. That said, what SIZE springs are people using ? You can get 2.5” ID coilover springs pretty reasonable...but I’m thinking 3” ID seems more “sturdy”. Pics and sizes would be appreciated !!

I would speak directly with engineering departments of the manufactures you have in mind.

My goal isn't to understand the spring capacity or rate...it's diameter vs stability...if their is any correlation in this usage. My question is directed more at those others who have built theirs....what do they have ?

I understand but I think you should talk to people who engineer this stuff daily. That’s all. They should have answers to your questions about diameter, wire size, coils per foot etc. which all come into play.

If you are doing a trailing arm they’ll probably want to know the length, relation of center of gravity to axle and trailing arm pivot etc.

I can “make something work” pretty well, but you want durability and to not have it bouncing all over or bottoming out... I think you should consult several experts- not just one manufacturer.

My ten cents anyway.
