Colorado Adventure 1967 Baja Bug Goes Hard $3500 Denver, CO

Selling a 1967 Baja Bug. My best friend bought it about 5 years ago and we have fixed it up ever since. Since he moved to West Africa, I gotta sell it. This is one of my favorite cars ever and it really deserves the right home. Vehicle has been a daily driver for the last 5 years here in Denver, no expections. Floor pan is solid. This car goes HARD.

We put in a used 1968 transmission awhile back with Thing rear drums. We built the motor for it, $4k in engine alone. Car rolls on 31" rear BFG All Terrains and 235/75/15 Firestone Destination A/T fronts. Recently replaced front beam and installed new ball joints. New KYB Gas-A-Justs all around. Brakes work smooth. The only thing we ever really cried about was that someone cut holes in the tunnel to fix the clutch cable tube. Since their repair broke during my friend's ownership, we fixed the tube in the tunnel better and welded the holes shut, it is what it is.

Car has a sweet interior featuring Porsche steering wheel, racing seats, carpet, heavy duty mud and snow mats, and a cool piece of wood for the utility back seat. We went through all the electrical and converted to 1970 style flasher box, so there are no hazard lights. Everything else works and the taillights are bright. This car has a functional heat system and has been through the last 5 Colorado winters, we replaced the heater cables and made sure all tubes were sealed and connected. Can be driven in a foot and a half to two feet of snow with no problem.

We built the engine with the best of the best stuff. It has an older exhaust on it that we have modified with a turn-down and a Forest Service legal spark arrestor. Flanged heater boxes and header provide years of leak-free service.

Things I remember about the engine:

-Brazil AS-41 case from 2002
-standard bearing and thrust size
-opened up for 94mm, decked, inserted, full flowed, welded behind #3 by Painter's Grinding (The Best)
-Type 4 style lifter bores, so we used brand new Type 4 solid lifters
-Engle W-100 hand polished
-SCAT I-Beam connecting rods
-94mm AA Piston kit, .055" deck height
-8:1 compression
-DPR 69mm counter weighted crankshaft
-8-dowel stock weight original VW flywheel
-SCAT basic 40x35.5 cylinder heads with chromoly retainers and single hi-rev springs
-Vintage original Dual Kadron set, rebuilt by us and also extended vent tubes by us
-Kaddy Shack jets
-New air cleaners kit
-SCAT solid rocker shaft kit, stock rockers
-brand new OEM valve adjuster screws
-lash caps
-Manton chromoly pushrods
-Silverline main bearings
-Silverline double thrust cam bearing
-Mahle rod bearings
-New Schadek 26mm oil pump (plugged for full flow)
-EMPI full flow cover
-Stainless AN braided lines going to full flow filter mounted to rear bumper cage
-Billet sump plate
-Windage tray
-Stainless valve covers
-New fuel pump
-New generator
-009 distributor
-Kennedy Stage-1 1700lb. clutch kit

Engine oil has always been Rotella 15w40 with a FRAM HP1

Engine has around 2500 miles on it and runs flawlessly.

Needless to say, this car is the cat's meow and the bee's knees. We have spent the time, effort, and money to make sure that this car is completely dialed in so you don't have to. I'll be keeping the vehicle in proper shape and may do a few things while it's at my shop, but it will always be running and driving ready to take off on its next adventure.

Clean, clear, signed over, Colorado title.

ASKING PRICE OF $3500 IS LESS THAN WHAT WE HAVE IN THE MOTOR!!

Sorry about the watermark on the pictures, I can't find the originals, my friend will be e-mailing them to me from Africa soon hopefully. I will also try to take some new pics in the comming days. I can help with any repairs needed now or in the future that you might want which includes teaching you enough about this Bug that you can maintain it reliably and have fun for years to come.

Please contact me via email at ian.strack@gmail.com or text/call at 303-842-7951. The Bug is at my shop and can be viewed anytime until about 10pm at night. Thanks!!

Oh this thing is just too cool. I wish you were closer..

No joke, if this wasn't on the other side of the country, it would be mine. I'd sell my Trooper in a heartbeat to own this little guy

Bump! Remember folks, this car was built before a time when computers ruled everything. It is much much different in what can be done to it to limp it around than any other car listed here....

Had a couple people off craigslist come look at it, one of them didn't know how to drive stick???

Looking to get it into the right hands!!
