Commercial van roof rack rails

They seem stronger than the yakima plastic. I don't intend to remove them often (or ever) so the hand tightening knobs on the yakima are useless. And they're much cheaper. Plus I wouldn't feel bad about trimming the metal or welding attachment points to them for awnings and such.

I have some broken yakima roof rack towers on my gen 2. I'm considering replacing them with cheaper (and maybe stronger) commercial van towers and bars like the ones linked below. Does anyone have experience with commercial van towers and bars on a montero?

The ones you linked to are junk, a good friend had a set on his Cherokee and they rusted from the inside in under 2 years living in a dry climate, and that finish is not weld-able. If you are interested I have a few sets of heavier duty van rack rails that use rectangular cross bars and will hold more weight than your roof could ever handle, I have them because I was thinking the same thing awhile back but went a different direction for the roof setup.
