Commo on the road in North America

HI! I'm wondering what the best "right-now" gear is for keeping in touch with the fam, picture storage, internet ect while overlanding in North America. Planning a trip to AK and would like a do-it-all that works in the US as well as Canada and Alaska. We have Verizon here in NE Montana. So...what are you using? Recommend? I'd like one smart phone, or netbook, or tablet, or whatever works. Thanks! Walt

Verizon runs off the GSM network and in Alberta (you could be going thru here or BC to get to AK) we have both Rogers & Fido that run off the GSM network.... in fact I use a unlocked Verizon on the Rogers network...

Verizon uses CDMA in the U.S., so if they are GSM in Canada you would need one of their so-called world phones in order for it to work in both countries.

I would guess cell phone coverage on a trip to AK would be very hit or miss, but I've not travelled that route. You may want some other comms mode.

Verizon works well out in the boonies.
