Conserving dried foods

Just wondering what others have been using to keep their dry foods humidity and oxygen free when traveling. I've been keeping a couple of computer shops supplying me with large silica gel packages from electronics parts which seem to work well. I dry them out in the stove prior to a trip and they seem to be able to be reused a few times before the bag they come in desintegrates. As an aside I used to see big about 3" x 3" x 5" bags of military surplus silica gel which were used in WW2 by soldiers to dry out their boots, but haven't seen those for awhile.

I know there are some packaged O2 scavengers available for one time use to remove oxygen out of food container air but haven't found those locally so have been getting iron grindings and shavings from a local machine shop, cleaning them with solvent, and then putting them in a separate container with a few holes to help reduce O2 in the storage containers, don't know how effective it is though as containers get opened all the time.
