Considering a trade...

Considering trading in my 2012 Ram 2500 Laramie megacab diesel 4x4 with 35k miles for a 2015 Ram power wagon Laramie.
It would be pretty much a straight trade at the dealer since my dodge is paid for the trade in price on mine covers the cost of the new power wagon.
I used to tow a 5th wheel but we downsized to a pop up so I don't really have the need for a diesel any more. I like the idea of a more off road equipped Ram for our adventures. Plus it would be new and have the obvious updates Dodge has done to the Ram.
What are your thoughts? Anything about the power wagons I need to know?

Thanks

Not gonna have anywhere near the pull and the gas will be much worse. To obvious items. I love mine but would like a little more power and mpg.

What size engine does your 2012 have? The 2015 I was looking at has the 6.4 hemi which has the function to drop to four cylinders when cruising, I'm wondering how this new engine is? Understand that I won't have the pull power I had with the diesel nothing to pull but our pop up camper, 3000lbs.

Assuming the cummins is worth a few thousand more now(since no dealer is gonna make an even trade), I imagine the 2015 will depreciate more rapidly than the 2012. Think about resale value 10 years down the road.

If you go to Cummins Forum there is a subsection in the 13+ forum for non Cummins trucks (6.4s). There is a lot of good info there. I have noticed quite a few guys trade in their newer diesels for the 6.4, but then comeback to a diesel truck very quickly. I'd definitely suggest you do your homework.

I personally think I would do the trade. My last couple of trucks have been diesel but if I ever need to get another one it will most likely be a gasser.

I wouldn't trade for it. I would take about 5 grand and upgrade the off-road capabilities of the cummins and call it a day

The only thing you get with the PW that's different then your truck now is front and rear lockers and a sway bar disconnect.

Put some ARB lockers in the truck and throw some nice shocks on and be done.

I just sold my 2500 Gas today so I could upgrade to a cummins.

I wouldn't do it either. Stick with the diesel and build that... then you will have the most versatility.

Seems like a lot of people on both sides of the fence. I am torn because the suspension is different on the power wagon and the 15 model year as well. The weight of the truck would also be less. Without a need to tow is the diesel still good to keep around just for the sake of having a diesel. I am not unhappy with my current set up just thought now might be the time to change directions since we sold our fifthwheel and don't intend to tow anything large anymore. I'm torn but still thinking and listening to your input. Anymore opinions out there?

I just sold my diesel, I'll never own another one. I got tired of the expensive maintenance, when I didn't have any need for a heavy duty truck. I don't know about where you are, but around here diesel costs more than premium, which negates the better fuel mileage savings.
