Contemplating importing a tdi Discovery from Germany to Canada

Hi Folks,

I came across the opportunity in bringing a TDi Discovery into Canada. Wont happen for another year, therefore I'm just in the early research stage in finding out about import regulations and cost.
What i need you guys for is input in "things" to watch out for when shopping around. Are there certain "must have" factory features? Any models you say to stay away? How difficult would it be to get engine parts in North America?
I know that the answers could be long and I don't expect super detailed advice. Just a couple of pointers would be awesome! Thanks.

Here is a link to one of them...http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-insera...=DIESEL&maxPrice=5001&negativeFeatures=EXPORT

I'm not sure where you are located but if you are on the west coast, a tdi disco from Japan would be closer for you. If you are in the east, there is currently a 1998 D1 NAS spec with an installed 300 tdi driveline installed in it for sale by a fellow in Sudbury. I recently bought a Japan spec D1, converted to Lhd, from a guy in Victoria, bc and shipping from there to Toronto was $1500 alone.

As been said rust is the major issue with the TDI disco's, they leak from the sunroof(s) and the alpine windows, & is the cause of rust in the rear floor.
There are good examples from japan but they will be RHD. how about exporting from spain or some other area with a policy of not salting the roads and they will be LHD.

Parts should not be a problem.

regards
