I just started posting aspects of my Disco build for the first time on the forum, and the issue came up of whether it is more useful to post separate mini-build threads for each part of the build, titled as such, or to post everything in one long ongoing build thread as many do. I've posted three mini-builds so far, but before I post any more I thought I'd poll the members on whether they would prefer me to continue future posts with a continuous thread or more mini-builds. It seems there are pluses and minuses to both and I have received advice both ways so far.

I really enjoy this site but I've got to tell you, the whole "(place your name here) Build Thread" is a little long in the tooth for me. Most, but not all, are just bolt on stuff that anyone can do and has usually been done to death.

There was a thread recently that, although it wasn't my style, the guy built his own bumper from scratch. (It got deleted and any and all info with it unfortunately) That's a build thread, something you don't see everyday and you can almost always learn something from. Bolting on an ARB bumper or RTT isn't all that informative or interesting to me. I'd rather see unique projects.
Just my 1 1/2 cents...

Continuous is much easier to keep track of everything for you, members, and Google logging of your build.

Also easier to see how it progresses.

The answer to me is both.
If you have something extraordinary, then you should be posting it in the section appropriate. Then it can be added to your continuous build too.
No option for that in the poll, so I didn't vote.
thanks

Kinda tough choice. I like both, although the search within thread option is a bit cumbersome to find details of interest in a long unified build thread.

Possibly some combination of both, with highlights and regular photo updates in the ongoing vehicle thread, with more details in a specific thread?

one. all your little threads clog everything else up. if people want to see your truck, they'll come back to read it. now go put those three threads together.

True, if people are only coming back to check out the truck as a whole. More like touristy-sight-seeing web browsing IMO.

If someone is searching for a specific idea and comes back to a thread they read in the past it becomes a PITA to search 20, 30,... 70 pages to find something discussed on 1 or 2 of those pages.

In some cases, the truck as a whole is very unappealing but there might be that one nugget of nice info. Much less irritating to go to that one nugget than to dredge through the entire 'build.'

The "both" option which some have mentioned is nice in theory, but there have been posters who've done that. I found that irritating at the time, but it could be because the poster seemed to have a "look at me, look at me!!!" aura. Finding the right balance will be tricky, and either of the 3 options is certain to be unwelcome to some folks.

Agree. If you have something unique, post a new thread. If it'd generic mods, do it in one thread.

So, your flooring: New thread

You HiLift: One thread.

For example.

Just here...
I like continuous build threads because it is all in one place. That being said, its really not that hard to have a "main page" with links to mods done within the thread itself. Want to see the rack? Link to page 3. What to see the bumper? Link to page 5, etc...

Continuous thread. Much better than having someone making a new thread when they change their tires, and then another when they added a Hella work lamp, and then another for spark plugs, and so on... I'd rather be able to click on one thread and go through the pages.

Or one for hi lift
One for lift mate
One for rubber flooring
One to ask if I should consolidate it.

Look at rons thread. All in one place. Loot at the expeditions west disco all in one place. Roverzilla all in one place. Stolenheron, street wolf, the list goes one.

Oh and most importantly, USE THE SEARCH. We have been through all of this before.

I voted for one thread. I like reading other peoples continuous builds and seeing the transformation all in one.

Separate thread with specific questions or problem solving needs.
(Then maybe a link back to your build thread.)

I vote for new build threads for every mod. Mods could even be broken down into sub-threads. I would do a mod thread for my roof rack, then one for my RTT, awning, one for the lighting, etc. That way we can quickly find the mod we want to look at.

I actually love this idea!

Build threads... bolt by bolt, mod by mod, thread by thread.
