Fed by rains in Western Queensland, floodwaters travelled 1000kms down the Cooper Creek and cut through the famous (infamous) Birdsville Track. This track runs due North through South Australias desert country. As this was the first time in twenty years that the track had been cut we went up there for a look. The local government put in a small ferry to allow supplies to get across. This ferry runs at the creeks narrowest point (270m wide) about 20kms upstream of the main track. The floodplain at the track is about 5kms wide.
As the ferry is only big enough for a single vehicle we left the trailer home and slept in swags.
