Thank you Al, also do you know if you can buy gasoline in San Rafael or Bahuachivo?

I'll check my map tonight as to where we got fuel in that area.

On Bahuchivo on a week day until 6 pm, on weekend its a wild guess, on San Rafael from 7am to 9pm everyday.

You can always get a little gas anytime in several houses but for a steep price.

(Bonus hint, ask where you can get beer outside the official time, that place will likly have gas also :) )

Saludos

We got gas at Bahuichivo, but that was almost 10 years ago 11/97. We went into Cerocahui for 2 nights at Paraiso del Oso. Took a day trip down to Urique by way of Mesa de Arturo & back. We continued to Temoris, Chinipas, Aqua Caliente across to San Bernardo & down to Alamos over 3 days. We had no problem securing fuel at all on our trip. Side note, one of the most spectacular places we stayed at was the hotel at Tejaban on the canyon rim, a couple of hours drive south of Creel.

It was 11/94 when I took the train, private railcars, from Mexicali to San Blas & up to Creel. That is when I stayed at the Hotel Mansion & made it out to Basaseachi

Hope your trip is going well.

Well it was time too look for some rock formations, and coming out of Creel we had seen an area that seem interesting, we had research the Valley of the Monks, so we wanted to go and find it, we had also heard of a lake and some water falls near by, so here we go to explore and find these areas.
Our first stop in a very well maintain road was to the entrance to the Valley of the Monks, you come the entrance to the park pay your 20.00 pesos and they supply you with a very small map.Our first stop was at a small I think the name was San Ignacio Mission a very small chuch, surrounded by some big boulder called Valley of the Ranas.
we continue on to find in a very well but narrow trail to Valley of the Monks, this is a great area we passed by some great valley were they had some corn fields, horses, and cows!
It was probably 2 miles into the back of the park when we came into another entrance were we were stoped by a Tarumahara women and charge us 10.00 pesos to go in; we were amazed by the area in was a very narrow trail and the sights were overwellming, you see these rock formations were they seem to have the look of monks standing around, this is a beautifull area!

After spending some time exploring we were on our way to find the great Arareco Lake, it was only a 10 mile run were we found the entrance to the lake, they have a camping area, and they have canoes for rent, this is a very peacefull area, plus the wether was perfect, coudy and some small rain at times!
After a couple of hours we decided to move on to the Cusarare Water Falls, when we found the entrance they had an area to park, it was a long 3km walk to the falls, well I heard they had another entrance to were you can drive in a 4x4 thru creek which would require some water crossing, so here we are looking to find the entrance, they do not have any signs for this entrance so it took us some time to find, if you want to know how to get there it is on your right side just before the road crosses a bridge!

It was a great trail, bumpy and not too difficult, some mild water crossing but not too deep, this is a great area to explore! You get to see some big boulders, wood bridges for the locals, and the start of a hiking trail to the water falls, we found some people walking on the trail and they were lost, exausted, however we gave them some directions to fin the main entrance to the falls, they were 1.5km away from the main entrance.

Upon arrivle to the Water Falls, we were hoping to see lots of water, however even with all the rain they were having they did not have a large supply, so the show was not what we were expecting, I made a desicion to have my wife wating for me, on the edge of the falls while I will hike down, I wanted to take some pictures of the water falls from below, so i did it was and easy hike down and very quick, however coming back up you have to use some stairs and it was somewhat difficult. I guess I need to start working out, however i do not feel I am too much out of shape since I past 2 groups of young 20 year old's, while they would take brakes to climb back!
This was a great canyon, and I also wanted to find some water springs in the area, but we were running out of time at this point!
I have to come back and explore some more, i would like to go down into Batopilas or Rio urique next time around, I will have to make some time next month to explore this area again...

The following pictures are from Valley of the Monks!
