Corral Canyon - East County San Diego

Well I was hoping to get out to Anza Borrego this weekend but had to keep any trips somewhat close to home. Eric (SD Native on adventure4x4.net) had suggested a Corral Canyon run, so that what I went with. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. Bobcat Meadows campground nearby would make a good place to stay for the weekend and explore the entire area.

Oh, and in the first 30 seconds on the trail we both got stuck. That's gotta be a new record!

great photos. That looks really challenging. Is all of corral canyon opened up again? I thought that there were some trail closures due to some older fires.

What were the trail names that you ran?

I'm guessing the trails are all open from the Horse Fire. Was that 2 or 3 years ago?

I'm also guessing the trail was Sidewinder? If I remember correctly... it's been a while.

And I don't think the bird is native:D

Anyways, cool pics.

Yeah, just about all the trails are open now. I've even heard they're planning on making some new ones.

I don't think the Horse fire was that long ago, but the trails we ran were Sidewinder and Bronco Peak. There's also Los Pinos trail that heads up towards the fire lookout and loops around the entire area.

Sidewinder and Bronco Peak are to extreme for me, but I've done Los Pinos and Espinosa Trails before. Very nice views on a good day from Los Pinos.

Found this on Espinosa one day and called it in to the Cleveland rangers. Hard to believe it made it as far as it did. Oh, the flies in this vicinity in the hot seasons can be DENSE, like you will breathe one in with every 3-4 inhalations. Ick.

Hey, those are some great pics of how the trail used to be. Its been graded since the fire. I also remember seeing that car the first time I ever ran that trail.

I led a TTORA run around Los Pinos trail maybe in 05 and that Taurus was fairly fresh then. Is it still there???

The Taurus was gone by Feb. '06 when I went back the first time. After the horse fire, when half the loop was open down to the campgrounds, Espinosa was still closed. Too bad about the grading.

Looks like you had a lot of fun, I went there for my first time a few weeks ago with a friend. I stayed away from the the trails with the big boulders, I was too afraid to attempt it because I don't have my sliders yet. Some day I hope to brave it like you did. Ill contribute some of my pictures from the trip.
