Costway Fridge - Not Cooling

I have a friend who purchased a Costway 23499-CYPE Fridge and out of the box it would not cool. It turns on, the compressor seems to kick on, but it does not cool the unit at all, the temp slightly rises a degree or 2 while running. I am leaning towards thinking that it has no refrigerant in the system...anyone know if it is possible to re-fill? How would I verify if this is the cause?

If it has no refrigerant then it's probably got a leak, yes? Send it back.
There is a very slight chance that it could have been shipped with no refrigerant in the system in the first place. I have seen this in other implementations...carelessness...

The company already sent him a refund and told him to keep the fridge...or at least...not send it back...so we are trying to see if we can get it running.

That's pretty good service from the seller! Where did he buy it?

If they don't even want it back, I wonder if it's a known problem that is expensive to fix...

It was an Amazon special so I think the return/refund has something to do with that. Not sold by Amazon, just sold on Amazon so my buddy was dealing with the seller directly for the refund/help.

It is indeed good service from the seller, but not any different than any seller should give. They don't want it back because the cost of shipping and the hassle of repairing vs. the cheap cost of replacement. They likely have containers of them floating over from China constantly.

It not only tells you about the exorbitant cost of shipping these days but also about the cheapness of the product.

Tanto, do you know a heat/AC guy? I've always wondered if it would be simple to solder in a port and recharge these little things. I've heard many people ask the same question but never known anyone who has done it.
