well things come in three. up to one week ago my JK rubicon was completely stock. save for some velcro handles and a plastic dash pannel to put my phone on.

Well last Friday I picked up a used AEV front bumper with skid plate. there is one tiny ding and a couple of very small scratches. this was on a well known silver JK that was a vehicle used in advertisemnets been to sema and over the rubicon. $800 :eek2:

Next I picked up a rock hard cage and had it painted to color match. so far I have $500 in to it including the paint. I picked it up from the painters and installed it tonight. I still need to trim the plastic faring to get it back on. and the center piece I am using spray on beadliner. this way I can touch it up myself as I am sure there may be a few modifications done to that piece. IE switches, overhead lighting, CB etc.

and this Friday I am picking up a used Hanson rear bumper. I will show pictures of that when I get it installed Friday night. The bumper is already held for me $400 it is comming off the same jeep the front bumper came off of. downside it does not have a swing away. and I really want the AEV rear bumper that is comming out. but heck you cant scoff at a super cheap 60% off steel rear better than plastic any day. If and when I get the rear bumper I want I am sure I can sell the hanson for what I bought it for.

So for an investment of $1700 I have installed over $3k worth of parts on my rubicon and made it look like a real rig should. Not to mention the money saved in shipping these huge parts and the Tax.

Operation overland JK on the cheap is well under way. My intention is to build up my jeep to be like the Mopar overland edition. In reality I am not copying. As most of the parts were alreaty virturly purchased in my mind. I just didn't have the cash to start. and I hadn't started buying parts as I was saving up for the AEV front bumper. That was going to be my first true part.

But with Craigslist. I figure I should be able to get my rubicon where I want it for under $5K.

Today I found a Warn M8000 winch for $350. But saddly I am out of money.

Last year I picked up a canadian M101 trailer ($1000) to build into my expedtion trailer, matching rubicon wheels ($100), and a whole new set of rubicon tires for the rubicon ($200). I will install those this summer. then use the 2 best tires from my current set on the trailer. then the trailer will get sent to Maaco for a color match and my tent will come off my WWII trailer and finally be at home on its modern trailer.

Ahh craigslist. how do I love you. Let me count how much money you have saved me.:wings:
