Craters of the Moon NP, Idaho

Michelle and I took a quick day trip out to Craters of the Moon NP in Idaho 2 weekends ago.

I was a very surreal landscape and the pictures DO NOT do the place justice.

We were able to walk into several old lava tubes and even inside one of the old "splatter cones". The splatter cones retain snow all year long despite ambient temps above 100F.

Basically, this is North Americas most recent rift eruption (not including Hawaii) and shows off some of natures raw power.

Enjoy the pics...

That's a very cool place. I explored most of the area in flip-flops (read big mistake). It truly is very surreal; by all means worth the visit.

Very surreal...especially when the suface warms and the heat begins to rise. Almost like a sci-fi movie. Pix are best if taken before/just after sunrise or sunset. The contrast from the radiant rock is just too high during sunny days.
