Went for a quick ride today up Otay mountain and down into Tecate and into Mexico.

The weather was PERFECT and everything was green for the first time since i started going there, it was amazing!

I think the nice weather brought out every critter imaginable, we saw a lot of deer, cows, bulls, rattlesnakes, king snakes etc..

We only got a few pics of the bulls and the king snake, but let me tell you, riding over (going too fast to stop in time) a rattlesnake that is sunning itself on the trail and some scary crap! Luckily i was lead and it snapped at the guy behind me! :yikes:

Anyway, here are some pics:

DISCLAIMER: I in no way shape or form condone handling wildlife, myself, i always let them be, observe them and go on my merry way. The handling of this snake was not my idea, and aside from being startled, it was not harmed!

Also, I did not take the snake pics, as i wouldnt get within 20ft of it!!! :D

The pics of the cows/bulls is in Mex right over the border in Tecate

Let's head down there when I get my New...FREE.....Engine!:victory:

I've been considering heading down there through Tecate. Camp in the mtns. one night. Then wake up in the morning and flip a coin for the Pacific or the Sea of Cortez!

Oh......life is just soooo Full of Choices!:friday:

Once again, awesome pics Kevin. I must get back out on the XR, SOON!

Just to increase your knowledge of the west coast fauna, since I know you are a Bostonian import...that is a Gopher Snake your buddy is holding, quite harmless, ya big chicken.

Kevin,

What was your route up Otay Mountain? I know they have closed off some routes(admin use only BP) between Jamul & Dulzura.

Otay Mt. truck trail used to be cool too, util the Border Patrol graded it and layed down gravel.

Heck, those don't look like single track, they look like illegal immigrant freeways:D

Hey Al

We usually enter in Dulzura, the gates are wide open and no signs of closures.

Each time we ride there, we always stop and let the BP know we are there and we are doing a little sightseeing, etc... They are always very nice and polite and thank us for informing them of our presence.

We have also ran into several BLM rangers who are also very polite, they both pulled us over (each time) to make sure we were street legal and such, and once confirmed we were legit, they usually hang for a little bit and answer questions about the area and point out some cool spots, one even shared his super fancy binoculars with the group! This would leave me to believe all is well and open.

We have had good luck up there in the last 3-4 months. I only discovered this place about 4 months ago, so maybe it has opened recently?

I vaguely remember someone mentioning it was closed for a bit due to fire danger, not sure though

The Dulzura cafe has some good eats too!
