Cruse Control Woes

Have a 97 SR that the cruse control does not work on. When I press the button the light does not come on as if it is not getting any power. Anybody done any trouble shooting on these systems? I cant find anything on it in my service manual, thought maybe someone here could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,
MKR

the fsm has a section testing the switch near the bottom, i think its not listed in table of contents. i've had my system fail 3 times but it's always been the pump. there should be a control unit in front passenger kick panel area. If i were you i would hit up the pull n pay yards and just buy some switches and control unit, try swapping parts as theyll be very cheap. That's what i've been doing with success. I have some spare control switches but i'll have to check if i got any cruise master switches.

Thanks for the info, brad2274. If I can find one in a junk yard around here I'll try that. Do you know if the same unit is used in the Sports?

based on oem part sites, it might not be, has a different part number even though the system looks the same and they shared motors.

But you should be able to use any montero unit from 1994-2000

again i dont know if this is your issue but its one way to go about diagnosing it. i would still check for power first, refer to FSM
