How much fuel for driving and exploring could the cost and time of the swap cost? Being a 98 you could look into a junkyard 6.5 and build it the rightway and drop it in. For every hater of the 6.5 there is a dedicated owner who loves them, I like them and if I were in your shoes that would be my choice.
for gregz, the 1 ton front axle that come in those trucks would not work for a sas. the diff is on the wrong side. your body style is "ford side" not "chevy side". i know this may be redundant, but you need to be aware before buying so you don't get stuck with an axle that you can't use.
on a side note. if you were to buy one of those trucks and needed to unload the axles, i am slo in wv and would be interested. thanks.
there are lots of ppl in here >>>>>I'm boring<<<< domestic section complaining about those 6.2 or 6.5 motors, by saying it wont last more than 300k, they make me smile.
KIDS 300k miles is around the world global travel about 5 times, some of u never been 200 miles away from ur house. dont worry about 6.2 it wont let u stranded
when my 6.2 or 6.5 goes bad after 300k miles, i am sure i can afford another motor.
as far as power i hope u know this is not diesel power magazine, you are on expedition portal, u dont need 1000 hp diesel to go camping,
my 6.5 td hummer PUSHED 32 passenger loaded tour bus up the hill, i think my camping gear is a little lighter than that bus so i should be ok
