well guys, i'm sad to say but i have to sell my cucv, things in my life have changed and it needs to go. I have poured my heart and soul into it. and its better than when i got it thats for sure.

anyway, here are the details.

its got 76k on the odo
new 35"bfg A/T tires with hardly any miles on them.
locked front and rear as usual,
missing a bed bolt but thats an easy fix.
cracked windshield
a glowplug mod that works really well. its all on a momentary switch.
BRAND new heavy equipment batteries 990 cca
new injectors not reman
new return lines
new glow plugs
just had the trans resealed.

the only known problem i have had with it is its hard to start, i don't know why but it just is. the other issue is a small oil leak somewhere that i haven't found and the output shaft seal on the t-case is dripping a tiny tiny bit.

over all a really nice truck, i really hate to sell it.

i would like 5500 for it, 7500 with the camper,

hand built by me, completly sealed with a fiberglass chop. great storage space, good hunting rig all together.

I'm in Bonney lake wa. So text or e mail me at 253-720-4793 or joepierce83@hotmail.com

Really? Everyone says they want a Cucv for an expedition truck and not a peep? Cmon! Its a great price!

Dude. I want this thing. Just don't know if I can do a trip to Washington for it. Tight schedule.

Any interior shots of the camper and truck? Any rust?

Still the 24V starting system, I take it?

Do you have a radio in it?

Any service it needs, like, right now? (Besides the unknown hard-starting problems.)

Thanks,
Steve

No services needed. It gets up and goes. Off like a herd of turtles. I have interior shots
. Pm me your e mail and I'll send whatever u want. The files Are just too large for here. No rust to speak of really straight body. The camper is solid as well. I built it under project 1x1 on this forum. Anyway and yes 24v starting system. I have a spare starter and vaccuum pump that I thought I would use but I never had to. The starter was a just in case measure if it went out I could swap it while the other gets rebuilt. Where are you located.

Don't know how familiar you are with that engine so please don't take this as patronizing if you are well-acquainted with it. I'm just trying to be helpful here.
The GM 6.2/6.5 diesel is difficult to start compared to modern cars simply due to it's design. It is a large engine running a 21.5:1 compression ratio. That high compression ratio creates an enormous amount of force to overcome. This is also true of many other older IDI diesel designs. Engineers addressed this by adding a second battery and making the starter gigantic. On my 6.2 diesel there is are factory instructions on the back of the visor that say to give it 1/2 throtte above freezing, and literally FLOOR IT when starting below freezing. I too have a momentary switch and in the winter I have to give it about a 12 second glow before ignition.
Modern DI turbodiesels don't do this because they have a lower compression ratio (ie, 16:1 in a 5.9 cummins) and are thus pushing less force on startup.

If you feel startup is still abnormally problematic I would investigate in this order: 2 batteries making above 1600 CCA combined. Starter working at full speed/power, voltage/amperage to glow plugs, condition of glowplugs, and lastly, compression test cylinders.

You've got a nice looking rig with really low miles. GLWS!

All of what you said is exactly correct. I have 2 new 990cca so close to 2000 CCA total. The starter is good. Its defiantly a fuel issue. It kicks over and stumbles a bit till fuel gets to all 8 injectors. The hums right along.

I was interested in this vehicle, but I am looking for a M1028. This was an M1008.
If anyone has an M1028 for sale I am interested in obtaining two for our HAM Club.
We are going to carry S250 Shelters on them (that is what the M1028 Dualie Truck is intended for).
