Current GEN 2.5 Owner/ Bought another 2.5 1998 , Winter Package" What to do with it ?

Hello EXPO ,

I now own a second GEN 2.5. To good of a deal to pass up. It is a 2 owner Montero with a binders worth of paperwork since new. Interior is a 7-8ish . Phone died before I could get interior pictures. It does not run hence the low price I paid today. I checked it out top to bottom . Oil on the bottom of motor can't quite tell where from yet. Cam seals , heads, valve covers, who knows ? Hit with the purple cleaner and rinse it and see whats what when I get it home tomorrow.

2nd Owner said that it overheated on him on the way home. Then he installed a new radiator and after the install he said that he could not get it to turn over. Got pissed and gave up. It has sat for a little over a year. I asked him did he check the TPS sensor and so on and he is like that did not occur to him. This guy did not seem like a car person. More Macgyver then mechanic. Maybe It can be saved. Time will tell or it becomes a parts car . I would hate to strip this Montero and then it become beer cans.

Suggestions ???
PARTS ??

Looks good, congrats on your purchase. Despite it being a V6 it's really easy to fix anything there, I would defenitely keep it. by the way i'm going to check out another montero tomorrow morning, it's not as good looking as your thought.

Roof bars I have to given much thought to. However if I decide to not use them I will PM you. I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest way to get this thing towed to the house today ...

U-haul .Tow dolly wont work. "Rear-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles must not weigh in excess of 3,900 lbs and you must disconnect your driveshaft."

If its not too far from your house I would just call a tow company and have them bring a flat bed tow truck.

Yep done it many times with discoverys..... Works fine. Even towed one with another.... Be smart about it and you won't have any issues. IE don't go to fast or be aggressive. I was certain to get the wider of the two they offer.

I spent from 6-10 trying to get this thing to turn over. No luck . Found all kinds of things out of order. Started to get to dark to really see .

It wants to turn over but its really slow , starts to put put , tried everything . Started fluid , some new gas ...

Plug wires were out of order. For Example on my 99 the plug wires go left to right (1-6). Switched them no difference . Correct firing order now.

Plug wire toward the left front and the only one that you can get to without pulling the plenum. I pulled the old spark plug " scorched and replaced have spark . I guess I will be pulling the plenum to check the other plugs tomorrow.

No OBD2 Codes / Leaving me puzzled ?

I filled the radiator all went out the back . Failed O-Ring on the inlet or crossover , EGR ?

Disconnected the battery / Reset everything/ Alarm shut off for now.

Suggestions , Comments ??
