Custom Expo Trailer based on M416, $4800 in Greenville SC

I am selling my used Custom build Overland Expedition Trailer based on the M416 Military Trailer. I bought this trailer 2nd hand. I no longer partake in this life adventure due to change in my lifestyle. My loss is your gain. I have almost $6k invested. Asking $4800

This vehicle was mostly used in the desert southwest, so there is no rust on it. It has been garage kept in SC for the last 2 years, except for a few outings. The paint is a dark green, and matched my 1998 Jeep Sahara very well. Touch-up paint that doesn’t perfectly match was used for touch-ups. I always planned to have the whole thing painted to match; I procrastinated to long.

The trailer is a custom built trailer based on the M416 military trailer, the tub looks almost identical. It rides on BFG 31x10.50x15 tires mounted on Jeep Wrangler Aluminum Rims, also has matching spare tire. All tires are less than 3 years old, with 90-95% life remaining. It utilizes a Pintle Hook towing mount. The trailer is not equipped with brakes or shocks, only leaf-springs for suspension. I am not sure of the axle rating.

The top is framed and covered with Marine Grade Canvas, with two side windows and double zippered rear flap. The framed top manually raises for sleeping. There is also a provision for a zipped on side awning, this awning can be attached to either side of canvas when camped.

The trailer has had a Black 48” Tradesman JobBox added to the front side of the trailer on the tongue. Inside this box are two Marine Grade Batteries in covered boxes, and lots of room for quick access items. The batteries power 3 external RV lights, 1 internal RV light, DC water pump, and a DC an outlet.
Internally, there is a removable non-slip subfloor on an angle iron frame used to hide/protect the water tank & pump, and other items not used on a regular basis. The inside of the tub, sub-floor support, and flooring is all painted.

Also equipped: 2-20lb propane bottles & mounts, 2-5 gallon Gerry Cans & mounts, 20 gallon fresh water tank, DC water pump, external water faucet, 2 removable spare tire mounts (used 1 for spare trailer tire & 1 for different sized tow-vehicle spare), removal sink, removal Point of Use Water Heater.

This has been a fantastic Adventure trailer for me. It gets attention wherever it goes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

That's a sharp trailer...

I'm getting ready to move back to AZ from Columbia! I wish I had the ability to drag it home. (Using truck to tow expo rig)

Good luck with your sale, I'll spread the word down here in the Midlands.

Sent from my Casio G'zOne Commando 4G, it's the John Connor of Smartphones. You cannot kill it...

Thanks

Thanks Lost Bushman.

Good Luck on your move back to AZ, I miss AZ a little bit, but SC has greener pastures if you know what I mean. :sombrero:

Sorry for the confusion. Lost Bushman is moving to AZ, not me. I don't anticipate getting any closer to Memphis with the trailer than the Smokies.

Thanks

Awesome looking trailer... Wish we were done with the Dave Ramsey thing (Dec 2015) ... I doubt you will still have it available by then, but it will serve as inspiration for my own build along these lines if I end up building my own..... Hope it finds a deserving home!

I miss those not so green pastures and the open country. If you don't know somebody who has land here, you're stuck going to Gulches or up to Uwharrie. At least here in the Midlands...
I'll take the back road to crown king or Rim road over anything out here.
Although, the kayaking here is great.

who did the canvas?

I bought the trailer used with the canvas top all ready installed. I'm not sure who made it, but I believe it is a custom job. Last year, I took it to Anderson Boat Canvas, in Anderson, SC for some repairs and they did a fantastic job. I hope this helps you.

@lost1z, Can you please tell me how the ingress/egress worked for the trailer when you used it as a sleeping platform. the tailgate does not visually appear to support a lot of weight. Also, how did it work as a sleeping platform. with the box length being about 6ft I believe, that would barely fit my 5'10".

Thanks for the info!

Sleeping inside on the raised platform (see rails at top of tub in pic) was not a problem for me. I am vertically challenged at 5'9"...lol I also tend to sleep on my side with my legs bent (fetal position), so I had lots of room. My only issue was getting my labrador in and out of trailer....lol

The raise sleeping platform is in three sections, the section closest to the tailgate is only 15", so I raise this section out of the way, stand on subfloor and the either lower the tailgate and jump to the ground or step over the closed tailgate to a retractable foot support/peg (see lower rear side of trailer) and step to the ground, this is by far the easiest and quietest option. You can also open the tailgate with the support chains removed and it will swing straight down, but this is a challenge if you are already in the tub.

The tailgate is very sturdy, especially since I changed out the cables. The original plastic coated cables that supported the tailgate worked ok for a while, but the cable started to pull out of one of the swedges. I have upgraded to a medium grade chain with heat shrink applied to most of the length.

Interested in the trailer

Lost1z,

You have a very nice trailer. I am very interested in it. I am not here to insult you in any way, the trailer looks great but is at about 65% of what I want done. What would you take for your bottom dollar? Again, not hear to insult you just have a lot more money that I would need to put into it. Thanks for your time.
