Daddy, Daughter Trip to Southeastern Utah...

My daughter, Lilly and I packed up and hit the road last Friday. The season of Fall is holding on nicely here in Utah. The weather looked stellar. Many of the spots we visited are not new. However, they were new to my daughter and without the crowds; quite an enjoyable experience. The mission was to enjoy the sun, hike to some spots, and try to find some ancient art. Mission was accomplished! Lilly was a riot!

Lilly was ready! She was already making faces and it was 9 in the morning.

After a quick hike, we found some rock art...A nice panel, but faded...

Some well-preserved petroglyphs!

Lilly had to bring some friends!

Iconic Utah Landmark!

Lilly couldn't figure out how the rock was still perched there...

The way every national park entrance/exit should look like.

Looking skipping along on the slickrock. On her way to the LaSals in the distance.

We found some prints of the past...

Not only footprints were found...Rock art all around!

Colors were out all over Moab. Yes, that is a tricked out 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Game on...

Lilly ready for the next adventure. We were looking for a rock art panel...Where could it be...

Up, up, up...we were aiming for the alcove. Lilly talked and climbed the entire time.

Success...one of the best panels I have seen recently...

Lilly in her own thoughts...A glorious day to do just that!

You know the road...The kitted out Sonata handled it real well:)
We had a grand time. Until next time...

I agree, who cares about the vehicle when you are building memories like these.
She will have lots of great stories to share with friends and history lessons will mean so much more since she will have a feel for the places she reads about.

Good on you for getting out there before she is all grown up.

Awesome. This is something I want to do with my daughter as well (also named Lilly). My wife loves camping as much as I do though so it might be kind of tough to convince her to stay home :)

Kane Gulch/Creek Road...A very popular road just on the out-skirts of Moab.

Stays in the canyon for a while and then opens up big...something out of a John Wayne movie...Enjoy:)

OK, seriously, this is my kind of road (no washboard :)). I would love to work this into our next trip. What's this road called? edit: Or is this Willow Springs Rd.?

Thanks,

Jason

Know what you mean...I had to tell my wife to stay home:( Daddy/Daughter time is just different without wife/mom.

Do it...You won't regret it:)

So glad to see this. I feared Lilly and Dad had gotten caught up in some wierd "stay inside and watch electrons" vortex after starting the summer out so well.

Can't beat Daddy/Daughter time (no matter how much they grow -- mine's 28 now!)

See, and right away I think Cars. Don't ask me how many times per day I watch that with the kids, lol!

Thanks for the info. This is exactly the type of trip I would be into. I've always wanted to do a Moab trip similar to what Scott and Sinuhe did in their Dangerous Drives episode. I am limited, however, by my stock Suzuki Grand Vitara so their route would not be an option, I'm sure.

Many roads in the area that you can take...Give me a shout when you get closer to your departure time. I can point you in the direction of least a few:)

Awesome! Truth be told, you'll get to far more remote places on your own two feet than you ever will in a motorized couch...

;)
