Daystar Rocker Switch fits in stock TJ switch location

My TJ came a soft top, and therefore has blanks for where the switches are for the hardtop wiper, defroster, etc. I wanted to find a good looking switch that I could use for my aux. lights. I looked at the Daystar Rocker Switch KU80012, and it states that it fits Daystar panels and some OE dashes. The sales person said he's seen them installed in TJ factory locations. Sure enough it fit. The universal design is very well thought out. The back of the switch has a barbed ramp for a lack of better terms so as you push the switch in, it tightens up. The barbed ramps will start to flatten out if you've reached the switch hole size, but haven't bottomed the switch flush against the bezel. What a great idea for a universal fit! The are rated to 20 amps, have 3 poles, are lit when on, come in four colors, limited lifetime warranty, and made in the USA! The only minor issue may be removing the switch. One may have to cut the barbs from the backside with a Dremal, or similar. If this is old news, please disregard.

I didn't take any pictures of the switch before the install, and everything is put back together now. If you want a picture of the switch in the bezel I can do that. Should've taken a few pictures before I installed it.

Ah, more Carling Tech switches.

Gotta love those things.

Pretty easy to order them up from places like Del City in any configuration you like. They are also the std switches that come with ARB lockers among other things.

The 20amp rating is handy on those. They allow you to get away without a relay for a lot of stuff that would traditionally require one.

you can also fit 3 of them in the 'flat spot' of an 03+ dash center if you're good with a dremel tool. I need to hunt around and see if I have pictures of mine somewhere.

Though Carling probably won't tell that it can be done, I've taken those apart and made one custom version from parts from a couple of switches. At the time that I did this there was not a DPDT dual-momentary offering, and I needed that for an in-dash winch control.

Could you post a picture of the final install? I just bought one for my 03 TJ. I know the dash changed a little in 03. What year is your TJ?

Thanks

I haven't tried them in the stock location. But there is room for 3 of them in the flat part (assuming you don't have or don't want to keep the airbag disable switch that came on TJs without a back seat).

You can see the ARB switches on the bottom right of this kinda bad pic of mine. The ARB and Daystar switches are from the same manufacturer and are the same size.

They work really good there, but you need to be handy with a dremel to get the slots cut right.

Pics for EmuDakar

Here are (2) pics of the switches (I hope). I've since installed two more for a total of three. I recently installed a second fuse block and had the dash apart, so I decided to install and wire the extra switches for future use. I consider the switches still one of the best purchases in a long time.

I'm experiencing an "The Expedition Portal Forum database has encountered a problem." error. Here is a photobucket link: http://pbckt.com/sW.T4F
